JOIN OUR TEAM - GRADUATE STUDENTS

Dear Prospective Graduate Students,

Mentoring is one of the most enjoyable aspects of my professional career, and I am strongly committed to mentoring students who pursue graduate training in our Clinical Psychology doctoral program. My mentoring interactions with students are grounded in the idea that the quality of mentoring depends on the quality of the mentor-mentee relationship, and I focus on intentional relationship-building with student mentees that draw them into the mentoring process as collaborators. My full mentoring statement can be found here.

Applications to our doctoral program are evaluated holistically, with an emphasis on the following: Compatibility with research interests of the identified potential mentor(s), academic excellence in psychology or related discipline, quality research experience, and evidence of strong written communication skills and strong quantitative skills.

Dear Undergraduate Students at TAMU,

The Youth Rising Lab hires a small number of undergraduate research assistants to join our team each fall semester and occasionally during the summer. Please note that these positions are made available based on lab needs.  Students may register for PBSI 491 to receive course credit for working in our lab  (information can be found here). We most strongly consider applicants who are able to join us for at least two semesters in the lab, though many of our research assistants choose to stay beyond that time. Successful applicants will have a commitment to working with youth and families who have been exposed to community violence and traumatic loss, be collaborative, have good communication skills, show good judgment, manage their time well, and take initiative.

Undergraduate research assistants will have the opportunity to work on any of our ongoing lab projects throughout the year, and the tasks for these projects may include the following: attending weekly lab meeting, literature searches and reviews, data entry and basic analysis using SPSS, data collection in schools and community-based, youth-serving agencies, contributing to the development of interventions for adolescents and families, contributing to scientific manuscripts and grant proposals, independent research for conference presentations, and supporting dissemination of our research into the community (e.g., social media, newsletters, presentations).

A research assistant position in our lab is ideal for undergraduate students seeking to gain additional research experience prior to applying to graduate school in clinical, counseling, or developmental psychology.  In addition to gaining professional skills and a better understanding of psychological research, you will also receive assistance with graduate school applications and preparation for graduate school.

If you are interested in joining our team, please download and complete the application form here and send it to youthrisinglab@gmail.com. Our lab manager will get back to you with next steps. Applicants who match positions will be invited to interview.
